Daryl Dixon
Daryl Dixon - Executive Chairman
Daryl Dixon is the Executive Chairman of Dixon Advisory and Superannuation Services. Daryl is one of Australia’s foremost investment experts and a well known writer and consultant. He has provided trusted advice to thousands of personal clients over the past twenty years and is an acknowledged expert in the areas of tax, superannuation (including public sector superannuation), social security and investments. He has also been a successful investor for over forty years.

Daryl is the author of numerous newspaper articles on investment and superannuation and writes regularly for the Canberra Times, the Public Sector Informant, Smart Investor magazine and the Australian Financial Review Investor (in the Sunday Age and Sun Herald). He has written a number of books (see booklist) and consults on personal and business finance strategies.

Prior to establishing his own consulting firm, Daryl worked in the International Monetary Fund, the Treasury, the Department of Finance and as Head of the former Social Welfare Policy Secretariat on major policy issues. He has worked as a consultant for a variety of government bodies and undertaken a large number of consultancies for diverse organisations covering the public, private and voluntary not-for-profit sections of the economy.

Daryl has a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Economics with First Class Honours from the University of Queensland. He won the Shell Scholarship allowing him to complete a Master of Arts, majoring in economics also with First Class Honours from Cambridge University in the UK. Daryl has lectured in economics, public finance and taxation theory at the Australian National University and the University of Calgary, Canada.

Max Walsh
Max Walsh - Deputy Chairman
Max Walsh is one of Australia’s top economic and political commentators, highly regarded as a journalist, author and broadcaster. Throughout his career, Max has been involved in all dimensions of the media industry, which has encompassed positions with two of Australia’s largest publishing companies and television networks.

From 1974 – 1981 he was the editor and managing editor of The Australian Financial Review and then established Nine Network’s Sunday program. In 1983 he was made a member of the Order of Australia for his services to journalism. Max then became co-presenter of the Carleton-Walsh Report on the ABC before moving to Channel 10 as anchor for The Walsh Report.

From 1983 – 1998 Max was also a columnist and correspondent with the Sydney Morning Herald and the Melbourne Age, in 1998 he became the Editor in Chief of the Bulletin. He worked at the Bulletin until his recent retirement from the Editor at Large position in June 2007.

Previously a Dixon Advisory Client for many years, Max joined Dixon Advisory as Deputy Chairman in July 2007. At Dixon Advisory Max applies his wealth of experience to provide an independent view of the Economic and Political situation in Australia and Worldwide. This materially assists the Dixon Advisory team provide the highest quality of financial and investment advice to their client base.
 
Alan Dixon
Alan Dixon - Managing Director
Alan has been providing financial advisory services to corporations, institutions and individuals for the last 14 years. At Dixon Advisory his primary role is to ensure that all clients receive Daryl Dixon and Max Walsh’s tried and tested financial strategies tailored to their individual needs. This is done through an integrated system of specialists assisting clients in all aspects of their financial needs. Dixon Advisory provides a complete suite of financial services, employs over 240 people and has over $2.5 billion of funds under administration across over 2,700 self managed super funds.

 Prior to Dixon Advisory, he worked for various investment banks, including ABN AMRO (where he was an Associate Director in Mergers and Acquisitions and Equity Capital Markets) and Ord Minnett Corporate Finance. Alan has a Bachelor of Commerce from the Australian National University and is a Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia. Alan is a SPAA Accredited SMSF Specialist Advisor.

Alan is also a Director of Australian Masters Corporate Bond Fund’s No 1 and No 2 Limited and the ASX listed Asian Masters Fund Limited and Global Resource Masters Fund Limited.

Tristan O'Connell
Tristan O'Connell - Finance Director
Tristan joined Dixon Advisory in October 2005 after ten years experience in financial and corporate management roles. Tristan's previous roles include being Financial Controller of the Prebon Yamane in Australia, one of the world's largest inter-dealer broker firms, along with more recently held senior finance roles for the Prebon Group in Singapore and London. Tristan has returned to Australia to be responsible for the financial management and growth of Dixon Advisory. Tristan has a Bachelor of Commerce from the Australian National University, is a member of CPA Australia, and is a Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia.



David Calvert
David Calvert - Managing Director, Superannuation
David joined Dixon Advisory in early 2002 with over 10 years of financial experience in a range of accounting and commercial roles. Together with Robert Turner and Alan Dixon, David was instrumental in the development of the SMSF Administration Division of Dixon Advisory. David established Dixon Advisory’s Sydney presence in 2006. In his role as Managing Director of our SMSF Administration Division, David is responsible for over 2,700 SMSFs with $2.5bn of assets under administration and over 150 staff including over 20 CPAs and Chartered Accountants with another 30 currently completing their qualifications. David has a Commerce degree from the University of Canberra and is a Member of CPA Australia.
 
Lyle Meaney
Lyle Meaney - Managing Director, Investment Advisory
Lyle has been providing advice to retail clients for over 14 years, working with both large and boutique advisory firms. Prior to joining Dixon Advisory Lyle worked with the National Australia Bank in various roles including Private Banking, Corporate Finance and Financial Planning. Lyle joined ABN AMRO Morgans (now RBS Morgans) in March 2001 working closely with the Investment Committee of Dixon Advisory to provide stock broking and asset allocation advice to all Dixon Advisory clients.

In October 2002, Lyle became Branch Manager of a new ABN AMRO Morgans branch to solely service clients of Dixon Advisory. This new branch initially had offices in Canberra and Hervey Bay, subsequently opening offices in Sydney and Melbourne. Funds under management have grown from $150m to over $3bn, with the number of staff also growing from 3 to 40.

In August 2007, Dixon Advisory internalised the provision of investment advisory services and moved all staff working with Dixon Advisory clients from ABN AMRO Morgans to the Dixon Advisory team.

In conjunction with his responsibilities as Managing Director of the Investment Advisory division, Lyle is also responsible for the management of Dixon Advisory's Victorian presence working from our East Melbourne office. Lyle has a Bachelor of Economics and Arts from the Australian National University and is a Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australiasia.
 
Phillip Bailey
Alex MacLachlan - Managing Director, Funds Management
Prior to joining Dixon Advisory, Alex was an investment banker specialising in the natural resources sector, most recently serving as Head of Energy, Australasia, for UBS AG in Sydney and prior to that as an investment banker at Credit Suisse First Boston. During his career as an investment banker, Alex advised many of Australia’s and the world’s leading natural resources companies, working on over $100 billion in announced mergers and acquisitions and capital markets transactions for over 30 leading Australian and international natural resources companies including BHP, Woodside and Santos.
 
Before specialising in natural resources investment banking, Alex worked in the Japanese Government Bond derivatives markets in London, New York and Sydney. Alex has a Bachelor of Arts from Cornell University and a Masters of Business Administration from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
 
Chris Brown
Chris Brown - Managing Director, Strategy
Chris is a member of the Dixon Advisory Investment Committee. Prior to joining Dixon Advisory, Chris was an Executive Director within the investment banking division of UBS AG in Sydney. During his 8 years with the firm, he provided capital markets and mergers & acquisitions advice to a wide variety of public and private companies both in Australia and overseas, with a particular focus on the provision of advice to industrial, utility, infrastructure, property and financial companies.

Chris's international exposure includes approximately 4 years in the UBS Mergers & Acquisitions Group in New York, where he was a Director and worked on transactions in chemicals, healthcare, consumer products, media, telecoms, technology, insurance and utilities. Prior to joining UBS, Chris worked in the Investment Banking Division of ABN AMRO, where his focus was the provision of advice to companies within the Australian property sector.

Before his career in investment banking, Chris worked for a Sydney based property funds management company and a chemical engineering and design company. Chris has a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering with 1st class honors and a Bachelor of Commerce both from Sydney University.

Phillip Bailey
Phillip Bailey - Lawyer, Managing Director - Estate Planning
Phillip is a legal practitioner of the ACT Supreme Court, and has worked for both a large Sydney commercial law firm and in Canberra in the public sector, including a period acting as the Secretary of the Senate Legal and Constitutional Committee.

Phillip started Dixon Advisory's Estate Planning Service, which now consists of three Estate Planners. Phil heads up the service, ensuring that clients of Dixon Advisory can rest assured that in the event of death their loved ones will be provided maximum protection from both waste and unecessary tax. Phillip is a passionate advocate of the substantial tax savings that can be made available through the appropriate use of discretionary testamentary trusts in wills. Phillip regularly gives presentations on tax effectiveness and asset protection in estate planning on behalf of Dixon Advisory.

Phillip has co-authored a model precedent for discretionary testamentary trust wills with Charles Rowland, author of the leading will drafting text for Australian Lawyers, Hutley's Australian Wills Precedents.

Craig Cameron - Executive Director, Investment Advisory
Craig is the Director of the Sydney Investment Advisory team which provides investment advice to Dixon Advisory's New South Wales and Queensland clients.

As well as managing the day to day operations of the Sydney Investment Advisory team, Craig specialises in implementing portfolios for self-managed superannuation funds utilising the Dixon Investment Committee's investment philosophies and experience headed by Daryl Dixon and Max Walsh.

Craig's responsibilities include working closely with the Investment Committee to ensure all clients receive up to date advice and recommendations on a regular and timely basis. In addition to providing advice to existing clients, his role includes reviewing and making portfolio recommendations for potential new clients who are looking to join Dixon Advisory.

Craig has experience within the financial services industry since 1992 where he began working in the Insurance and Superannuation market with National Mutual before working for National Australia Bank for 8 years. This involved a variety of roles including National Private Banking before spending 3 years in Financial Planning with NAB Business Banking helping clients with their superannuation strategies and investment advice. After joining Dixon Advisory in 2003 he has specialised in providing investment advice for Dixon Advisory clients.

Craig has a Bachelor of Financial Administration from the University of New England majoring in Accounting & Finance.

Chris Duffield
Chris Duffield - Executive Director, Head of Dixon Advisory Property
Chris heads the Dixon Advisory Property division. Since joining Dixon Advisory Chris has been responsible for raising over $500 million in equity across a diverse range of asset classes including Australian property, Australian and international equities, corporate bonds and commodities. Chris has extensive expertise in Australian residential, office and retail property.

Chris is a member of Dixon Advisory’s Investment Committee and has extensive experience in corporate finance and investment management. Prior to joining Dixon Advisory in 2003, Chris held various roles in the UK and Europe, including assisting with the Demerger and restructure of pharmaceuticals companies Allergan and AMO.

Since working with Dixon Advisory, Chris has acted as an advisor to clients with over $150 million of assets. Chris was previously the Director of Corporate Finance and joint head of the Canberra Office overseeing 120 staff and the training of all advisors in the style of investing that Daryl Dixon and Max Walsh had successfully applied to their own investments for over 40 years.

Chris is currently a director of the ASX-listed investment company van Eyk Three Pillars (ASX: VTP), holds a real estate agent’s licence in NSW and the ACT and is a licenced Auctioneer.

Chris has a Bachelor of Economics degree and a Bachelor of Information Technology degree both from the Australian National University. He is also in the final stages of completing a Masters of Applied Finance and Investment with FINSIA.

James Bailey - Director, Investment Advisory
James provides investment and portfolio construction advice to clients, consistent with both their individual objectives and risk profile along with the views of the Dixon Advisory Investment Committee. James is responsible for mentoring, developing and overseeing the Melbourne Investment Advisory team. Prior to joining Dixon Advisory, James was a Private Wealth Advisor at ABN AMRO Morgans. James has a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Canberra and holds a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment with the Financial Services Institute of Australia. James also holds a graduate certificate in Financial Planning.

David Orr - Director, Investment Advisory
David provides investment and portfolio construction advice to clients, consistent with both their individual objectives and risk profile along with the views of the Dixon Advisory Investment Committee.

David leads the Canberra Investment Advisory Team and ensures that all new advisors are mentored in the style and investment approach that Daryl Dixon and Max Walsh have successfully applied to their own investments for over 40 years. This approach ensures that all clients receive the same advice in a timely and consistent manner. Where required, David is also involved in the structuring and management of capital market transactions for Dixon Advisory clients.

Prior to joining Dixon Advisory in 2005, David worked at Energy Australia.

David has a Bachelor of Commerce from the Australian National University and a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment. David also has a Graduate Certificate in Financial Planning from the Financial Services Institute of Australia and is currently studying for a Master of Applied Finance and Investment through Kaplan Professional Australia.
 
Nerida Cole
Nerida Cole - Executive Director, Financial Advisory
Nerida Cole is the head of Dixon Advisory’s Financial Advisory Division. Nerida is a highly experienced financial advisor with a specialisation in all aspects of superannuation including complex defined benefit funds and self managed super funds. As well as assisting a portfolio of her own clients, Nerida is responsible for the training, development and mentoring of all of Dixon Advisory’s team of financial advisors Australia wide. Working closely with the firm’s Executive Chairman, Daryl Dixon, she is responsible for the firm’s policies and strategies in Financial Strategy Advice. Prior to joining Dixon Advisory, Nerida was a Financial Planning Manager at the National Australia Bank. Nerida has a Bachelor of Commerce (UNE), Advanced Diploma of Financial Services (Financial Planning) and has successfully completed the study for the Certified Financial Planner course.

Richard Hambly
Richard Hambly- Director, General Manager - Superannuation
Richard is a General Manager of the SMSF administration team based in Canberra. Richard joined Dixon Advisory in 2008, with over eleven years experience with one of the ‘Big Four’ accountancy firms. During this time, Richard gained extensive experience in providing advisory and assurance services to a wide range of public and private sector clients. Richard has Bachelor degrees in Commerce and Science from the Australian National University, and a Masters degree in Business and Environmental Management from the University of Newcastle.

 
Robert Turner
Robert Turner - Executive Director - Superannuation
Robert is one of Australia’s most experienced Self Managed Super Fund administrators and accountants. Responsible for the day to day operation of the Administration Team, Robert has been involved in the growth of Dixon Advisory since early 2001. 

Robert has a Commerce degree from the University of Canberra and is a CPA and a Registered Tax Agent as well as an SPAA accredited SMSF Specialist Advisor. Robert has over 20 years financial experience and has dealt with all levels of complex problems inside Self Managed Super Funds.

Andrew McPhillips - Director, General Manager - Superannuation
Andrew joined Dixon Advisory in 2005. Andrew has a Bachelor of Commerce from the Australian National University and has been a Chartered Accountant since 1996 and holds a CA Certificate of Public Practice. Andrew has in excess of 15 years experience in major accounting firms, in accounting, project management and systems implementation roles. Andrew is a General Manager of the SMSF administration team based in Melbourne and was one of the key directors involved in establishing the full service Dixon Advisory office in Melbourne. Andrew's previous role was as a Director of Deloitte.

Chris McCurdy - Director, General Manager - Superannuation
Chris joined Dixon Advisory in July 2007 and is a General Manager of the SMSF administration team based in Melbourne managing the accounting, administration and compliance requirements for our clients self managed superannuation funds. Chris was also one of the key directors involved in establishing the full service Dixon Advisory office in Melbourne.

Chris has over 14 years accounting experience across a wide range of industries both in Australia and the UK incorporating self managed superannuation fund accounting and financial management roles. Chris has a Bachelor of Commerce from the Australian National University and has been a member of CPA Australia since 2000.
