Capital idea to profit from US property in five years

A participant in the most talked-about alternative investment strategy of a few years ago for Australian investors – including do-it-yourself super funds – of investing in depressed American residential property has cautioned those who have invested or may be thinking about this strategy from expecting too much too soon.

They shouldn't be expecting instant results from American residential property and should expect to wait for at least five years, says Alan Dixon, the New York-based chief executive of Australian DIY super specialist Dixon Advisory and Superannuation Service's American investment division.
