Even in opposition, Gillard and Swan won't make it easy for Coalition

While Tony Abbott is likely to win a majority in the lower house in the September poll, the Coalition is unlikely to have control of the Senate.

Kevin Rudd's disavowal of any further leadership ambitions should not be seen as marking a return to "normal Australian politics".

Rather the "new normal" of tooth-and-claw political confrontation is destined to remain firmly in place as we move towards, and then beyond, the September 14 federal election.
